Spectral Domain OCT

OCT – Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

OCT

Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is a non-contact medical imaging technology similar to ultrasound and MRI. With OCT, reflected light is used to produce detailed cross-sectional and three dimensional images of the eye. You will be seated in front of the machine with your head rested.

Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is a non-contact medical imaging technology. It is quick and painless. This test requires no dyes. You will be seated in front of the machine with your head rested. The equipment will scan your eye without touching it. The OCT device relies on light waves to produce detailed cross-sectional and three-dimensional images of the eye. The scan takes approximately 5 minutes. The doctor can take thickness measurements and map anatomic changes to the retina. The doctor will use the OCT to monitor and detect changes to the retina. An OCT allows the doctor to diagnose, and monitor eye conditions such as macular degeneration, macular holes and puckers, macular edema, glaucoma, central serous retinopathy and diabetic retinopathy.
